LARGE-SCALE SCULPTURE | Martin McWilliam
€700.00
28-29-30 September and 01 October 2023
This course offers the opportunity to build large-scale vases or sculptures. These could be figurative, abstract or very classic. A large and complete scale of construction techniques will be made available. Participants will learn how to handle large clay slabs, coils, work starting from the solid block and combining all these procedures. The possibilities of finishing will be explored: different media of scraping, filing, beating, brushing, polishing, application of slips or engobes. We will discuss ways to add color with slips, oxides and various firing possibilities and the use of cold glaze. We will start from the demonstration and illustration of large-scale constructions. And later, the participants will be asked to bring a model or a sketch of an individual project and the teacher will evaluate and assist during the construction process. The strong point of this course lies in conveying an open use of clay.

MY FUNNY GLAZES | Maite Larena
12-13-14-15-16 June 2024
When we approach ceramic glazes, the first impression is of immensity ... where do I start? What are the raw materials? Which glazes will fit my pieces? The development of custom glazes is particularly attractive to most potters. In this course, following a simple methodology, working methods will be taught to plan the development of glazes and obtain a large quantity of them. In this way we will expand the development of colouring, textures, applications and aesthetic results applicable to the author's ceramics. A laboratory for testing ceramic glazes for 1240-60 ° C is proposed, both for firing in an electric kiln and in a gas kiln. An extensive documentation will be provided, which will be examined in presentations and theoretical speeches interspersed with the work of the workshop, as well as computerized archiving systems for ceramic recipes.
Maite Larena Graduated in chemistry at the University of Valencia, Spain and self-taught ceramist. Larena's career is divided between artistic and technical work. In addition to her personal and collective exhibitions with the series of special glazed containers; Maite has been invited to several international conferences as a highly experienced researcher in the field of ceramic glazes and stains. He has published 11 specialized articles on glaze coverings and developed 6 projects subsidized by the Spanish government on ceramic research. And for several years he is the head of the research, development and production of glazes and stains of PRODESCO S.L. and of AICE-ITC, Research Association of Spanish Ceramics Industries. In the field of teaching, for many years, she was professor of the Department of Materials and Ceramic Technology of the Scuola Superiore d'Arte de Manises, Spain.

CREATIVE MOLDING TECHNIQUE | Simon Zsolt József
28-29-30 June and 01 July 2024
The aim of the course is to understand the opportunities to model the forms inherent in molding errors. We will learn how to prepare a multi-part plaster molding form, which allows us to model the internal and external shapes of the final object.
The artist will make a presentation of his works, which will allow to observe and understand this special molding procedure. The second half of the screening will demonstrate the creation of a specific object from the beginning to the final stage.
Participants will start working on one of Zsolt's floral objects, through an individual consultation, and later, they will create a different shape, allowing learning from each other's work. From the preparation of the plaster, the finishing, sawing, sanding and assembly of the plaster form will follow until the porcelain casting.
Simon Zsolt József Simon Zsolt József studied at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Budapest. He is an all-round artist, interested in ceramics, painting, theater and music. The study of movement is the basis of his work. His particular research is concentrated in the process through the molds or modules that give birth to a particular shape, not the programmed one. It uses porcelain for its quality of fragility which grants a sense of lightness, movement and refinement.
