MAKING MOLDS FOR CERAMICS | Paolo Iori

07-08-09-10-11 October 2020

To reproduce a shape for large or small productions, but also to create unique objects starting from a mold for collecting or to print by hand, simplifying the manufacturing processes; is the dream of many potters. The artist and teacher Paolo Iori will present in an effective, simple and creative form a program for the production of multi-part molds for casting and pressure molding. It will appear from the idea and from a personal project to develop a model that will be analyzed in order to later realize the own mold.

Paolo Iori Paolo Iori was trained in Sesto Fiorentino with the masters Bruschi and Gigli, who gave them the opportunity to learn precise and elaborate forming techniques, for the manufacture of plaster models and molds. In parallel Iori develops his personal artistic path, which began in London and continued with exhibitions in Japan, Belgium and Italy. He currently works in Belgium and works with artists, art schools for training courses, and designers for creating prototypes on very specific projects. Among them, the "École supérieur des arts visuels" of the Cambre in Brussels, the Academie Royale des beaux arts in Brussels, and the "Center culturelle" in Andenne, "Keramis" at the Louviere.

CREATIVE MOLDING TECHNIQUE | Simon Zsolt József

450.00

26-27-28-29 November 2021

The aim of the course is to understand the opportunities to model the forms inherent in molding errors. We will learn how to prepare a multi-part plaster molding form, which allows us to model the internal and external shapes of the final object.

The artist will make a presentation of his works, which will allow to observe and understand this special molding procedure. The second half of the screening will demonstrate the creation of a specific object from the beginning to the final stage.

Participants will start working on one of Zsolt's floral objects, through an individual consultation, and later, they will create a different shape, allowing learning from each other's work. From the preparation of the plaster, the finishing, sawing, sanding and assembly of the plaster form will follow until the porcelain casting.

Simon Zsolt József Simon Zsolt József studied at the Budapest University of Art and Design. He is an all-round artist, interested in ceramics, painting, theater and music. The study of movement is the basis of his work. His particular research is concentrated in the process through the molds or modules that give birth to a particular shape, not the programmed one. It uses porcelain for its quality of fragility which grants a sense of lightness, movement and refinement.

Reproducing a shape for large or small productions, but also creating unique objects from a casting or pressure mould, simplifying the working processes; this is the dream of many ceramists. The teacher Marco Malavolti will present in an effective, simple and creative way an intensive programme on the basic techniques needed to make multi-part moulds for casting and pressure moulding. Participants will work on objects provided by the organisation on which the moulds will be made. The objects are designed to see different complexities and moulding techniques.

Marco Malavolti After graduating at Ballardini in Faenza, he started working in 1997 as a craftsman and immediately started collaborating with the International Museum of Ceramics, producing several works. At the same time, he also collaborated with Elena Agnini in Munich where he specialised in restoration. Also in 1997, he began teaching at the "T. Minardi" School where he held courses in basic and advanced ceramics. Over the next five years he specialised in moulding, becoming a reference point in Italy on this subject. In 2002, he opened Manifatture Sottosasso, structuring various activities: his own production linked to the world of design, collaborations with artists and galleries (the most important include: Garutti Alberto, Siedlecki Namsal, Previti Riccardo, Simeti Francesco, Ornaghi e Prestinari, Galleria Minini, Galleria Zero, Galleria Continua, Fondazione Officine Saffi, Galleria Nilufar). PORCELAIN WAVES | Mette Maya

22-23-24-25 September 2022

The workshop explores the use of organic shaped structures in ceramics inspired by nature and architecture. During the workshop delicate structures will be made using bamboo curtains and string.

Afterwards several layers of soft paperclay will then be applied on the bamboo structure to create textured porcelain waves. The bamboo will burn during firing, making possible many creative possibilities through the addition, combination and modification of shapes. These bamboo structures will also be the basis for making plaster moulds to explore movement in clay.

Finally, a selection of the works produced will be glazed with engobes and oxides that will allow for very interesting colour effects in the final firing.

Mette Maya Mette Maya Gregersen holds a BA in ceramics from the Camberwell College of Arts ad a MA in Art Psychotherapy from Sheffield University. She has travelled extensively and has been invited to ceramic residencies in the UK, Hungary and China. Her work is an investigation into her own emotional condition as well as into social identity and a connection between thought, hands and space. She has exhibited internationally, hold lectures and taught many workshops. She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, the Danish Association of Art and Design and the Dirty Go Clay Band.

The 24-hour workshop lasts from 9.00 to 17.00 on thursday, friday and saturday and from 9.00 to 12.00 on sunday.

Included in the Workshop cost: 24 hours of teaching | all the necessary materials | firings | nr. 3 brunch lunch
